Università Cà Foscari Venezia

Profile of the organisation

Ca’ Foscari University of Venice is a public University with a national and international outstanding reputation for academic excellence in both teaching and research. Since its establishment, in 1868, as the first Italian university devoted to commerce and economics, it has been growing and developing new relevant research fields. Research activities are currently structured along 4 major areas, namely: economics and management; humanities; foreign languages and literatures; mathematical, physical and natural sciences.

Research activities are carried out by 8 departments and a series of research centers.

The University benefits from its membership in various academic and research networks, as well as from the links with public and private research institutions. Ca’ Foscari signed over 200 international cooperation agreements with higher education and research institutions worldwide, with the aim of promoting educational and research mobility and exchange. It has also participated to about 140 of EU funded  projects since 2000.

The University features a unique blend of the business and management domains with humanities and its focus on foreign languages (almost 40 taught) that fosters a continuous enrichment of a cross-disciplinary perspective. A high number of events also strengthen the opportunities for interaction with the local and global community so that a fruitful process of networking of ideas and competences is fostered. One example is “Ca’ Foscari Digital Week”, a biennial event focused on the impact of digital technologies over the economy, society and culture, that consists in over 50 sessions and meetings (speeches, roundtables, workshops, laboratories) including hackatons. The University also established a center for Digital Humanities in collaboration with EPFL (Lausanne) and a cooperation initiative with Digital Accademia, a training laboratory focusing on digital content and entrepreneurship with a leading business incubator (H-Farm).

The Department of Management develops scientific knowledge and skills for the management of companies of any size, type and field of activity. Classroom study is integrated with counselling and tutorials focusing upon development of entrepreneurship and leadership for new enterprises
